The Taylors in Taylor Taylor & Hobson were brothers. It appears that two men called Hobson were involved with the company who were distant relatives, but not at the same time - one replaced the other.
Herbert William Hobson and William Stephen Hobson may be second cousins, descended from James and Susannah Hobson of Walgrave, near Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. They had twin sons, William (b1785) and Stephen (b1785). William married Anne Tingle and their son William Stephen (b1825) was Herbert William Hobson (b1865)'s father. Stephen's son, William Waugh Hobson (c1827-1867) married Mary Ann Watson in 1860 and their son William Stephen was born in 1865.
Thomas Rust formed T. W. Rust & Co. In the 1871 census Thomas and Anna are living at 88 London Road, Leicester and Hubert W Hobson, nephew, age 5 is at the same address. In the 1881 census Anna Clarissa Hobson, widowed, is living at New Parks House and William S Hobson (b c1865) is listed as a visitor.
Hubert Hobson of Taylor, Taylor & Hobson and William Stephen Hobson of T. W. Rust & Co., both have addresses at Arundel House, Dane Hill Road. On the 1881 census, William Stephen Hobson (b 1825) is at this address, as is his son Herbert W. Hobson. | |

Herbert William Hobson is listed "of Wright & Hobson". William Stephen Hobson is listed "of Taylor, Taylor & Hobson". On the 1901 census, William Stephen Hobson (bc1865) is listed at 37, St. Peter's Road as a scientific instrument maker. | |
